There is a short blurb typed up and pasted to the back of the frame which appears to have been done by someone related to the original artist. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the 1800s it was popular to hand colour botanical studies with watercolours or gouache and I found some similar pictures online from the same time period, done sometime in the mid-1850s. That falls in line with what is written on the back as the artist would have painted this prior to 1869.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a very old piece with patina and spots of wear. The frame has a raised edge at the top but it is only visible from the back and isn’t anything major.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe picture sits behind glass in a wood frame. There is a rope on the back for hanging. I have left the original backing but put in a few new frame tackers to better support.
