A gorgeous piece that is very solid and heavy. I purchased this from an estate sale in Carnarvon, Ontario and the woman told me that it was originally from a church in Montreal. It was originally a church altar candle holder but it has been rewired into a lamp.

The lamp has an ornately carved scene of dogs with feathered tails around the base, filigree and some kind of creature around the middle, and flowers and filigree around the top. There are also some flowers above the base and Latin writing around the very top.

You just need a bulb and shade of your choice and this lamp is good to go!

One of the brass decorative studs is missing on the back of the lamp but it doesn't impact use and can be turned to the back anyway. It isn't too noticeable. See photos but you can see where it had been held in place with brass nails.

  • The Latin writing says: Illuminat Omnem Hominem Erat LVX Wera Ou??* 
  • *?? means these are letters not in the English alphabet and I don't know what they mean
  • Illuminat Omnem Hominem Erat - translates to He Enlightened Every Man (according to Google)
  • LVX = apparently means light because the letter U was originally written as a V in Latin
  • Wera = perhaps means true? The W looks like two crossed Vs and Wera didn't translate to anything in Latin but Vera means true
  • Ou?? = I'm not sure because I don't know what the last two letters are to run through a translator

31.5" tall from base to the very top of the lamp harp, 17.75" tall from the base just to the top of the brass stick, and 7" by 7" across the base. The cord is 80" long.
