I went to an estate sale happening out of the church building formerly known as Alberton Presbyterian Church, which is in Alberton, Ontario, and was built in 1878. Alberton is just outside of Hamilton in the countryside by Ancaster. The church became vacant last year and it was recently purchased to be turned into a mosque. The new owners were selling off the items from the church.
This hymn board was in the main part of the church where services were held and I took it off the wall. It includes the nine number cards that you see in the photos. The six and nine can be turned upside down if needed to make two sixes or two nines.
From my research, it looks like this hymn board is an antique from the end of the 1800s, possibly the beginning of the 1900s. As the church was built in 1878 I am assuming this is also from that time period.
The wood is oak and very sturdy and solid. It has been constructed with nails. The cards are made from the same kind of material you would find with playing cards or flashcards. The cards can slide out of the hymn board to the left or to the right. There is a hole at the top for hanging.
A beautiful piece which can be hung on the wall or leaned on a shelf. The slots could be filled with other numbers or letters on cards that could slide into the slots. This would be great as well for booth or shop signage, or you could write menus on cards and slide them into the slots.

LOCAL DELIVERY is available for Hamilton, Burlington, Dundas, Ancaster, and Stoney Creek residents. The delivery price starts at $7.00 and increases based on your postal code location. Minimum purchases are also necessary, based on postal code location. When you check-out, select SHIP, and if you meet the minimum purchase requirement, you will be able to select local delivery instead of shipping. If you don't meet the minimum purchase requirement, you won't be able to select delivery.
