An absolutely gorgeous piece of barro negro (black clay) pottery from Oaxaca, Mexico. This type of pottery is distinct to this area of Mexico and is praised for its colour and unique designs. The texture and feel of it is quite unique and it's an inky, matte black colour.

The cup vase vessel stands on three stubby tripod feet and has a bird on either side acting as a handle. I believe the birds are turkeys because they have the flap of skin on the top of the beak.

One bird does have the very tip of its beak chipped but it doesn't impact the look and isn't too noticeable, especially when you have it on display and aren't holding it.

Almost 4.25" tall and 4.75" across. Just the mouth opening is almost 2" across.
