Six Nations of the Grand River is located in Southern Ontario and is home to Talking Earth Pottery. It started with Elda “Bun” Smith, who would collect shards of pottery pieces from around the community and decided to research and revive the tradition of making pottery using historical methods. She took pottery classes and brought back the art.
Her son, Steve Smith, started learning to make pottery when he was 12 years old and now continues the craft with his wife, Leigh Smith, their daughter, Santee, and their granddaughter, Semiah.
Talking Earth pottery is highly collectible and is featured in museums and galleries around the world. Pieces sell for high prices online and in auctions - in the hundreds of dollars range.
